Shamiran Badal serves Mission College students with disabilities. She is multilingual in Assyrian, Farsi, and German. Motivated by "joyful moments of achievement on any scale and in any aspect of my life, I am passionate about meeting with students who are determined to make good changes in their academic and career endeavors."
She loves to learning about new cultures, languages, and differences. Furthermore, she believes that a successful community is made by people who have different abilities, passions, and perspectives.
Although Shamiran Badal has a graduate degree, she has encountered challenges that could've prevented her from succeeding. According to Dr. Victor Rios, At-Promise students already possess the tools necessary to succeed in school, but need support and assistance to utilize those tools. Shamiran's challenges included the following.
- She had many doubts and questions when she began to take lower-division courses at
Mission and West Valley College. - Was an immigrant, first-generation, adult re-entry, and ESL student.
