Privilege Acknowledgement
Privilege is an unearned advantage that is highly valued but restricted to certain groups. Everyone has some form of privilege. Acknowledging your privilege does not mean you believe you are better than others. It is a way of demonstrating gratitude for an advantage you have and acknowledging that those without the advantage experience the world differently than you do.
According to Julia, "I had the financial and emotional support of my family to attend college and pursue a career which I loved. I acknowledge what a privilege this is since I am aware many students pursue their education with limited support, balancing food and housing needs on top of meeting education demands.
This influences my work as I am intentional to connect students with the various academic and financial resources which can serve to support them on their journey."
