Diego's professional experience has focused on providing opportunities for first-generation and low-income students and families. He serves as the EOPS/CARE & CalWORKs Director.
His experience includes working for the Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR-UP) at California State University Monterey Bay; the Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) Grants Office at Mission College; and most recently serving as the Director of Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Grants and Initiatives at Monterey Peninsula College.
In his most recent Director position, Diego led two Department of Education Title-V Grants, focused on increasing the academic attainment and transfer rates of LatinX and low-income Students in Monterey County. Under his leadership, the grant programs and activities had a significant impact on MPC students, earning nominations to Monterey County's Excellence in Education Award.
Most recently, the work of the HSI Office contributed to MPC being named a 2021 Equity Champion of Higher Education by the Campaign for College Opportunity for the exemplary work awarding Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT) to Black and Latinx Students.
Diego is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education with a concentration in community college leadership at San Diego State University.
