Championed by Santa Clara County Supervisor Susan Ellenberg, who visited the class last week, Mission College launched the Community Health Worker (CHW) Safety Net Training Program with an inaugural class of 21 students.
The 12-week program combines nursing faculty from Mission College with trainers from the Community Health Partnership. The program teaches students on the role of the Community Health Worker, as well as the introduction of chronic disease management and an externship with a local Community Health Center.
The program. is designed to create a pipeline of training community health workers as a local safety net.
Centers taking part include AACI, School Health Centers of Santa Clara County, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, Ravenswood Family Health Network, and Gardner Health Services.
