Full-Time Nursing Faculty Job


Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, which shall include courses in nursing, or in natural, behavioral or social sciences relevant to nursing practice;

AND

2. A clear and active license issued by the Board of Registered Nursing;

AND

3. Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing area to which he or she will be assigned, which can be met by:

  • One (1) year’s continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the designated nursing area; OR
  • One (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent that demonstrates clinical competency.

AND

4. Understanding of, and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.

 


Adjunct Faculty Job (LVNRN)

The Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) faculty qualifications states the candidate must have the following:
1. Education – Possess any one of the following:

  • Master’s in nursing; OR
  • Bachelor’s in nursing AND master’s in health education or health science; OR
  • A valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in Nursing; OR
  • The equivalent of the above.

AND

2. Current valid California Board of Registered Nursing License (CA BRN)

AND

3. Direct patient care experience within the previous five (5) years in the nursing area to which he or she is assigned, which can be met by:

  • One (1) year’s continuous, full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse in the designated nursing area; OR
  • One (1) academic year of registered nurse level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area or its equivalent that demonstrate clinical competency; AND
  • Completion of at least one (1) year’s experience teaching courses related to registered nursing or completion of a post-baccalaureate course which includes practice in teaching registered nursing.

AND

4. Demonstrated ability to effectively work with persons of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

Ideal Candidate
  • Public Health Nurse certification with Home Care experience.
  • Prior teaching experience in Nursing at college level.
  • Ability to use technology as a teaching and learning tool
  • One year of full time experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care within the last 5 years (Clinical teaching applies toward direct patient care experience).
  • One year of academic experience in the following; teaching nursing courses in a diploma, associate or baccalaureate degree pre-licensure registered nursing program OR providing in-service education OR practice in teaching nursing as part of a course.

Adjunct Faculty Job (Vocational)

1. Education & Experience – Possess any one of the following:

  • Any bachelor’s degree AND two years of related professional experience; OR
  • Any associate’s degree AND six years of related professional experience; OR
  • A valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in Nursing; OR
  • The equivalent of the above.

AND

2. Current CA license as RN or VN.

AND

3. Minimum of two years’ experience as RN or VN in last five years.

AND

4. Demonstrated ability to effectively work with persons of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

BVNPT QUALIFICATIONS: The VOCATIONAL NURSE (VN) faculty qualifications, as set by the BVNPT (article 2529), states the candidate must have the following:
1. Current CA license as RN or VN
2. Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience as RN or VN in the last 5 years.
3. One of the following:

  • Baccalaureate degree from accredited school
  • Valid teaching credential
  • Completion of 1 year full time teaching experience in state accredited or approved RN, VN, or PT program within last 5 years
  • Meets CA community college or state university teaching requirements.

Fire Tech Faculty

The Ideal candidate

The ideal candidate will also demonstrate the following desired qualification(s):

  • Previous experience instructing or managing a Firefighter 1 Academy
  • Currently certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or currently licensed Paramedic
  • Registered instructor with California State Fire Training
  • Skills Evaluator/Lead Skills Evaluator certification
  • Experience with developing or revising Fire Tech curriculum
  • Six years of experience as a Fire Tech instructor
  • Previous experience as an EMT instructor
  • Career experience as a firefighter/fire officer
Education – Possess One of the Following
  • Any bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of professional experience; OR
  • Any associate degree and six years of professional experience; OR
  • A valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in the discipline.

AND

2. Understanding of, and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.

ADDITIONAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Candidates must be a Registered Instructor with California State Fire Training, within nine months from appointment.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to obtain and maintain additional teaching certifications as required relating to California State Fire Marshall and/or California State Training Institute.
