then
by Tiffany Tran
an irreversible mistake
a human’s love taken for granted
believing she is a home always present
willing to wait every time you’ve gone
(yet rarely come)
a lesson learned
after a stormy rageshameguilt hit
left the pair alone abandoned without a home
the sea whispers through the salt of tears:
“forgive yourself for what you didn’t know then”
The breeze reminds them
of the invisible then
an irreversible mistake
a human’s love taken for granted
believing she is a home always present
willing to wait every time you’ve gone
(yet rarely come)
A sorrowful but silent goodbye
i thought you forgot about me
praying away the past
i’m sorry
and a promise for a better tomorrow
if you would like to be. . .
ones lost in empty space
where the warm skin embraces a cold caress
and phantom fingers run through tight roped hair
a ghost beside them waiting patiently there
patiently waiting for
another chance
for what they didn’t know then
About the Author
Tiffany Tran is a 21 year-old Vietnamese-American currently majoring in psychology at Mission College. This is her third and last year attending community college before transferring to a California State University.
Tran says, "Aside from being a college student, I write in her own time. While I do find myself enjoying the consumption of various forms of art, I have a longstanding history with reading which eventually led me to writing. Writing is the most natural way for me to process, share, and express myself. Ever since I discovered this creative activity as a child, I haven’t been able to put it down so I plan to continue pursuing it as I move forward in life."
