SANTA CLARA, Calif.-- Mission College in Santa Clara will hold its 43rd Commencement
Ceremony online at missioncollege.edu and streamed on Facebook and YouTube on Friday, May 22, starting at 6 p.m.
Despite the last few months of sheltering in place, Mission College is set to award
over 1000 students with a degree or certificate. Many will transfer to places like
San Jose State and Cal State East Bay, or become first responders thanks to Mission's
Fire Tech and Health Occupations programs.
In what has become trying times for Mission's students, the ceremony will include
taped speeches from Chancellor Brad Davis, President Daniel Peck, Valedictorian Alayna
Peters and keynote speaker, and NBC Bay Area Emmy Award-winning journalist Damian
Trujillo.
Mission College has also partnered with tech company, StageClip, allowing students
to video personal greetings and add a Snapchat filter, which will be played during
the ceremony.
The ceremony will also include recognition from area politicians Susan Ellenberg,
Kansen Chu, and Bob Wieckowski, as well as mayors Sam Liccardo and Lisa Gillmor. The
Mission community has provided encouraging words the last two weeks on the College's
social media platform, using the #MissionSCgrads hashtag.
Over the last few months, Mission College has awarded more than $600,000 to its students,
including international and DACA students, in the form of financial assistance and
a laptop, hotspot loan program.
